Final reminder to use the MEETING POINTS for hook-ups

a meeting point at the conference

I know we keep harping on about this, but connecting with other delegates at an event this size—and in a relatively new venue—may be a real challenge. And you don’t want to waste the first 15 minutes of that super-critical buyer meeting trying to find each other. So make plans to connect at one of our three Meeting Points in the event’s main meeting areas. These 10-foot pillars will look like this, and here's where they will be located:

Meeting Point A — Grand Ballroom (Trianon)
Meeting Point B — Grand Ballroom (Versailles)
Meeting Point C — Mezzanine South

If you have any last-minute questions or needs, please feel free to get in touch with our top-notch Customer Support team for answers and assistance. They are standing by to help at summit@kidscreen.com.

MASTER CLASS (10:00-11:30)

Taking Best Practices from YouTube to Other Digital Platforms

Our expert host from ZEFR will share insights into top-performing children's programming, influencer partnership best practices, and harnessing premium content to reach the growing children's audience on YouTube. The panel will also explore strategies and “watch-outs” for Facebook, Vine, Vimeo and other up-and-coming platforms. The format of this class will include a 20-minute presentation and small interactive breakout groups for a hands-on discussion.

MENTOR CLASS (10:00-11:30)

21st Century Branding—How to apply it to kids entertainment, licensing, PR and more

What is branding? While this may sound like a simple question, in today’s media world, it’s never been more complex. But one thing is clear: If you have an existing kids company, kids product or property, or even just an idea for one, you need to understand how to brand it. Branding experts Alan Winnikoff and Larry Seidman will take you through the process of positioning and messaging a brand, and plotting out the attributes of its extensions. From there, they’ll provide you with a roadmap for the real-world practical application of that brand strategy so that it successfully drives your marketing, licensing, PR and social media plans.

MASTER CLASS (2:00-3:30)

Developing the Master Plan—How to think about the future of your business

Join renowned foresighter Suzanne Stein to explore the past, present and future trends in the kids entertainment industry like never before. This uniquely crafted immersive workshop features hands-on activities to get kids entertainment execs “thinking about how to think about the future.” Come and discover how to analyze patterns of change over time, how these patterns can impact the future of your business, and what you can do to turn them into market opportunities.

MENTOR CLASS (2:00-3:30)

Creator 101—Pitch perfect!

After months of toil, sweat, and let’s face it, some tears, you’ve finally developed your idea into The Next Big Thing and you’re ready to share it with the world! Or are you? While there has never been a better time to be a content creator, producers and broadcasters have never been so preoccupied (not to mention, confused) by the pace of change in the media landscape. Join noted show creator Alexander Bar (Mike the Knight, Lunar Jim) in this hands-on session designed to help you perfect your pitch and presentation skills to command their attention.

Kidscreen: The only way to advertise at the Summit

Kidscreen’s February/March issue is the only TV trade publication that will be distributed at the event next month, and there is still time to book an ad and give your show extra profile to make a lasting impression with buyers.

At the event itself, we distribute a copy to each and every attendee in our delegate bags, and we always have plenty of extras out for casual pick-up. PLUS, this edition of Kidscreen gets sent to 10,000 industry subscribers before the Summit, and 1,000 copies will be available at Toy Fair afterwards. That kind of extended exposure is exactly what you need to get on all the right radars... and stay there!

Get in touch with the Kidscreen Sales Team (416-408-2300 x492 or sales@kidscreen.com) for more details on options and pricing.

This week’s big news? Pixar to kick off the event!

Mary Coleman

We are thrilled to announce that Mary Coleman, Head of Creative Development at Pixar Animation Studios, will open 2016’s biggest event for leaders in children’s entertainment with a presentation that explores the studio’s unique and highly successful creative process.

From its first movie, Toy Story (1995), to this year’s Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur, storytelling needs have been driving the development of ground-breaking technology at Pixar for over two decades. Sharing film clips and insider anecdotes, Coleman will illustrate this special relationship between narrative and technological innovation that has produced some of the best animated films of all time.

Kids biz leaders shine in Then, Now & Next session series

As Kidscreen gears up to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2016, our Then, Now & Next sessions on the first day of the event will feature industry-leading execs who have grown up in their fields of expertise over the course of Kidscreen’s 20-year history. They’ve seen it all! And they’ll be with us at Kidscreen Summit to take a look back at the critical changes that have shaped the business to help us understand how we’ve gotten to where we are today, and where we might go next. Joining Pixar’s Mary Coleman in this series are: former Nickelodeon maven Geraldine Laybourne; Toys"R"Us, Inc. EVP and Global Chief Merchandising Officer Richard Barry; Frederator Networks CEO Fred Siebert; and two of the founding fathers of DHX Media, Steven DeNure and Neil Court.

Geena Davis to talk gender equality in Tuesday keynote

Geena Davis

Opening day two with an equally big bang, Oscar-winning actor Geena Davis will deliver a keynote address entitled If She Can See It, She Can Be It. Recognized for her advocacy of women and girls as much as for her on-screen accomplishments, Davis has made it her life-long mission to bring gender equality into children’s media. And in this presentation, she’ll detail her work at the forefront of changing female portrayals and gender stereotypes within the entertainment industry to dramatically alter how girls and women are reflected in media targeting children ages 11 and under.

We have just rolled out the full event program online!

That’s right, the wait is over. You can now take a look at the 85-plus keynotes, panel discussions, presentations, debates and networking/pitching formats you’ll be able to choose from at this year’s event. And if you see something you really want to attend, why not add it to your schedule now and then book meetings around it?

Use kidscreenXchange to add sessions to your personal agenda

This week’s to-do? Cocktail planning!

Make your Cocktails with... lottery selections starting today

If you’d like to loosen up and make deeper connections at platforms that buy kids programming at the same time, this is your chance! The sign-up process for our Cocktails with... networking sessions, where you can chat over drinks in small groups with leading buyers, has just kicked off with a selection phase that started this morning. You should have received an email from us earlier today with instructions on how to get into the lottery. But in case it didn’t reach you, please login to kidscreenXchange and follow these instructions carefully to participate:

  • In the nav box on the left, click on the Agenda tab and scroll down to click on any of the Cocktails with... sessions
  • Click on the Selections button
  • Select the three hosts you'd most like to have cocktails with from the grids that will appear, numbering them in terms of priority using the dropdown options
  • When you've successfully made your three selections, they will be marked as Submitted and you will be done

You have until Wednesday, December 9 at 5:00pm EST to make your selections, and then spots on the guest lists for our Cocktails with... sessions will be randomly assigned by an automated lottery program. There are 280 guest list spots in total, and we expect them to be in high demand, so there is a chance that you will not be selected to join any of the hosts you’d like to network with. If that happens, we encourage you to check kidscreenXchange frequently as delegates sometimes make changes to their personal agendas, which may leave a spot open on a guest list you’d like to be on. Also, at the event, you are welcome to check in with our Room Monitor at any Cocktails with... session you are interested in attending to see if any spots have become available due to no-shows. Good luck in the lottery!

Getting your bearings

By now, you’re probably in the thick of scheduling Kidscreen Summit meetings, so we’ve attached maps of our venue to this Delegate Bulletin to help you figure out where to connect with other delegates. Our Delegate Lounge—which is Meeting Central at the event—will be located on the second level in the Grand Ballroom.

a meeting point at the conference

We will once again have three 10-foot-tall Meeting Points set up in and around the Lounge area to help you find each other more easily. Each one will look like this (but with a different sponsor image, of course), and here’s where they will be located:

Meeting Point A — Grand Ballroom (Trianon)
Meeting Point B — Grand Ballroom (Versailles)
Meeting Point C — Mezzanine South

We’re still looking for a sponsor to brand the Meeting Points this year, so if you’re looking for a high-impression opportunity on-site at the event, this delivers. Get in touch with the sales team (sales@kidscreen.com) to find out more.

Buffet breakfast and lunch will be served all four days of the event in the second-level Chopin and Biscayne Ballrooms. Our conference sessions are all taking place in various rooms on the lobby level. And just inside the hotel’s main entrance, the open-concept Lobby Lounge and Toro Toro Bar is a great place to unwind over drinks, or meet up with a dinner date.

MENTOR CLASS

Creator 101—Pitch perfect!

After months of toil, sweat, and let’s face it, some tears, you’ve finally developed your idea into The Next Big Thing and you’re ready to share it with the world! Or are you? While there has never been a better time to be a content creator, producers and broadcasters have never been so preoccupied (not to mention, confused) by the pace of change in the media landscape. Join noted show creator Alexander Bar (Mike the Knight, Lunar Jim) in this hands-on session designed to help you perfect your pitch and presentation skills to command their attention.

MENTOR CLASS

MASTER CLASS

Developing the Master Plan—How to think about the future of your business

Join renowned foresighter Suzanne Stein to explore the past, present and future trends in the kids entertainment industry like never before. This uniquely crafted immersive workshop features hands-on activities to get kids entertainment execs “thinking about how to think about the future.” Come and discover how to analyze patterns of change over time, how these patterns can impact the future of your business, and what you can do to turn them into market opportunities.

MASTER CLASS

Taking Best Practices from YouTube to Other Digital Platforms

Our expert host from ZEFR will share insights into top-performing children's programming, influencer partnership best practices, and harnessing premium content to reach the growing children's audience on YouTube. The panel will also explore strategies and “watch-outs” for Facebook, Vine, Vimeo and other up-and-coming platforms. The format of this class will include a 20-minute presentation and small interactive breakout groups for a hands-on discussion.

BOOK NOW to stay at the InterContinental Miami

Our hotel reservation link is open for business, and Kidscreen Summit attendees can book king or double rooms at the InterContinental Miami from February 4-12 for just US$309 a night. This is an outstanding rate for this hotel class in February, which is prime time for Miami travel and tourism.

Ranked #6 in the city by TripAdvisor, the Miami InterContinental is a thoroughly modern four-star hotel located on prime downtown waterfront. It was renovated from top to bottom three years ago, and its attractive features include breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, spacious and well-appointed guestrooms (with 24-hour room service and minibars), an on-site Starbucks, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a full-service spa and a heated outdoor pool and sundeck.

Plus its Toro Toro Restaurant and Bar—which is a crown jewel in the hotel’s swank open-concept lobby—is sitting pretty at #4 on TripAdvisor’s Miami restaurant rankings.

The InterContinental is located just minutes away from South Beach, the Design District, Coconut Grove’s bohemian village and the many galleries, restaurants and boutique shops in Coral Gables.

So what does this all add up to? A GREAT accommodations option for KidscreenSummit. Trust us, you are definitely going to want to stay where the event is!

We’ve secured a generous block of rooms, but they are already booking up quickly, so we highly recommend that you reserve online soon.
