Only 10 more sleeps to go!

Monday night Mojitos brought to you by Amazon Studios

We are thrilled to announce that Amazon Studios has come on-board to sponsor the Kidscreen Summit Kick–Off Cocktails, taking place on the fifth–floor Poolside Terrace Monday night from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. So make sure you swing by to mingle with their team as the sun sets on Miami. All Kidscreen Summit delegates are welcome!

Delegate Lounge hours

Some of you have been asking us when the Delegate Lounge, sponsored again this year by our friends at KOCCA, will be open during the Summit. Here are the hours for your reference:

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23 — 8:00 – 6:00

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24 — 8:00 – 6:00

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25 — 8:00 – 6:00

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26 — 8:00 – 4:00

Final reminder to use the MEETING POINTS for hook-ups

I know we keep harping on about this, but connecting with other delegates at an event this size – and in a brand–new venue – may be a real challenge. And you don't want to waste the first 15 minutes of that super–critical buyer meeting trying to find each other. So make plans to connect at one of our three Meeting Points in the event’s main meeting areas. These 10–foot pillars will look like the image shown here.

And here’s where they will be located:

Meeting Point A — Delegate Lounge (Trianon side)

Meeting Point B — Delegate Lounge (Versailles side)

Meeting Point C — Mezzanine South

Come on out and join us at 3:15pm on Wednesday, February 25 to show your support for these brave creators who will present their pitches live on stage and make adjustments in real time, based on notes thrown at them by a panel of broadcast, licensing and production execs.

Keep an eye out for Speed Pitching openings

We have just completed the lottery for our Speed Pitching sessions, and the schedule is looking pretty full. BUT we encourage you to keep an eye on these sessions in because folks who have pitching slots will sometimes remove them from their schedules and free them up again. You'd also be surprised by the number of no-shows for Speed Pitching, so we recommend that you show up about 20 minutes before these sessions start and check in with the room monitor to get on the standby list. People are very often successful at squeezing into meetings this way.

Getting oriented

Trying to figure out where to connect with people and find conference sessions in our new venue? Check out these handy maps of the event space at the InterContinental Miami. Note the three Meeting Points that are set up in and around the Delegate Lounge—these 10-foot pillars are the best connection points, and we encourage you to use them. Each one will be marked at the top like the example shown here.

Venue Tours & early badge pick-up—hit the ground running!

Located on the 2nd floor of the InterContinental Miami, our Kidscreen Summit Registration Desk will open at 12:00pm on Sunday, February 22 for anyone who would like to pick up their badge a little early. We are also running guided tours of our brand-new event space on Sunday afternoon (12:30pm/2:30pm) and Monday morning (8:30am) so you don’t have to waste precious time trying to find sessions and meeting spots throughout the week. If you could use a little navigational guidance, meet us at the Registration Desk.

REMINDER: The Delegate Lounge is open all day Thursday

We're not running any Kidscreen Summit conference sessions on Thursday, February 26, but the event is definitely still open for business. This is a great day to max out on meetings in our Delegate Lounge, which is available for you to use from 8:00am to 4:00pm. And if you’ll be stuck at the hotel for lunches earlier in the week, this is your chance to get outside and soak up some mid-day sunshine at a nearby patio restaurant as we’re not serving buffet lunch on Thursday.

Start your engines, people… It's Speed Pitching sign-up time!

Make your Speed Pitching lottery selections starting today

The sign-up process for our ever-popular Speed Pitching sessions, giving you the chance to have quick one-on-one pitch meetings with broadcasters and investors, has just kicked off with a selection phase that started this morning. You should have received an email from us earlier today with instructions on how to get into the lottery. But in case it didn’t reach you, please login to and follow these instructions carefully to participate:

  • Click on the Agenda tab on the left, and then select up to 10 hosts you'd most like to pitch from the grids that will appear, numbering them in terms of priority using the dropdown options
  • When you've successfully made your selections, they will be marked as Submitted and you will be done

You have until Wednesday, January 28 at 5:00pm EST to make your selections, and then Speed Pitching meetings will be randomly assigned by an automated lottery program. There are 144 meeting slots in total, and this session format is a very popular Summit staple, so there is a chance that you will not selected to join any of the hosts you’d like to meet with. If that happens, we encourage you to check frequently as delegates sometimes make changes to their personal agendas, which may leave a meeting slot open. Also, at the event, you are welcome to check in with our Room Monitor at any Speed Pitching session you are interested in attending to see if any slots have become available due to no-shows. Good luck in the lottery!

This week’s to-do? Cocktail planning!

Make your Cocktails with...lottery selections starting today

If you’d like to loosen up and make deeper connections at channels that buy kids programming at the same time, this is your chance! The sign-up process for our brand-new Cocktails with... networking sessions, where you can chat over drinks in small groups with leading broadcasters, has just kicked off with a selection phase that started this morning. You should have received an email from us earlier today with instructions on how to get into the lottery. But in case it didn’t reach you, please login to and follow these instructions carefully to participate:

  • In the nav box on the left, click on the Agenda tab and scroll down to click on any of the Cocktails with... sessions
  • Click on the Selections button
  • Select the three hosts you'd most like to have cocktails with from the grids that will appear, numbering them in terms of priority using the dropdown options
  • When you've successfully made your three selections, they will be marked as Submitted and you will be done

You have until Wednesday, January 21 at 5:00pm EST to make your selections, and then spots on the guest lists for our Cocktails with... session will be randomly assigned by an automated lottery program. There are 180 guest list spots in total, and we expect them to be in high demand, so there is a chance that you will not be selected to join any of the hosts you’d like to network with. If that happens, we encourage you to check frequently as delegates sometimes make changes to their personal agendas, which may leave a spot open on a guest list you’d like to be on. Also, at the event, you are welcome to check in with our Room Monitor at any Cocktails with... session you are interested in attending to see if any spots have become available due to no-shows. Good luck in the lottery!

Happy New Year, everyone!

We hope you had a great holiday with your friends & family and that you’ve hit the ground running in 2015. There are just seven weeks left before Kidscreen Summit and we’re going to have a lot of news coming your way between now and then. Here’s what you need to care about this week...

HOTEL UPDATE—very few rooms left

Our block of $299 hotel rooms at the InterContinental Miami is nearly sold out for the peak nights of February 22, 23 and 24. Inventory may still open up due to cancellations, so we do recommend that you keep checking online or by calling the hotel directly at +1-305-577-1000.

But in the event that you need to book elsewhere, here is a list of hotels within walking distance that have rooms available:

Kidscreen’s Global Pitch Guide, hot off the presses

To help you get ready for your meetings with broadcasters at the Summit, CLICK HERE to check out the 2015 edition of our annual Global Pitch Guide. It contains up-to-date buying profiles and executive contact information for 30 leading kids channels from around the world. You’re welcome!

Kidscreen: The only way to advertise at the Summit

Kidscreen’s February/March issue is the only industry publication that will be distributed at the event next month, and there is still time to book an ad and give your show the extra profile it may need to make a lasting impression with buyers.

At the event itself, we distribute a copy to each and every attendee in our delegate bags, and always have plenty of extras available for casual pick-up. PLUS, this edition of Kidscreen gets sent to 10,000 industry subscribers before the Summit, and 1,000 copies will be available at Toy Fair afterwards. This kind of extended exposure is exactly what you need to get on all the right radars... and stay there!

Get in touch with the Kidscreen Sales Team (416-408-2300 x492 or sales@kidscreen.com) for more details on options and pricing.

We’ll also explore the opportunities around creating affiliated niche channels, and how to leverage your audience connections to attract brands and advertising partners.

(1:00-2:30) MENTOR CLASS

Shows like Bob’s Burgers and Pretty Little Liars have recently done a great job hitting each demo’s sweet spot. So how do you balance unique characters with intriguing narrative threads and story arcs that will keep them entertained? Join a master of the tween/teen writing craft to talk process and genres, and you’ll come away with the tools you need to polish your script ideas.

(1:00-2:30) MENTOR CLASS
Launchpad Logic—Making the right TV vs. digital decision

Given that the paths diverge so completely now, the decision to launch a kids IP on TV or on new media first is an important one. So we’re bringing in a brand-building guru to guide you through these choices, outline some related surprises and challenges you should prepare for, and explore how to start constructing a three-year brand plan.

(3:00-4:30) MASTER CLASS
Direct to Retail—Making the perfect pitch for shelf space

You’ve got a seat at the retail table. So what’s your next move? The good news is that retailers are more open to brand and content partnerships than ever before, and their physical and digital reach has never been greater. The challenge is that metrics are murkier, and your old pitch playbook won’t work with the powerful new decision-makers and influencers who will decide your retail destiny. In this Master Class, retail positioning expert Carol Spieckerman will reveal the three principles and five action steps that will drive big-profit, multi-stakeholder retail successes in 2015 and beyond, and she’ll frame everything up with her latest retail insights. Get ready to future-proof your consumer products strategy and win high-volume opportunities!

(3:00-4:30) MASTER CLASS
Promoting Innovation—A guide to empowering creative teams

A top-notch creative team is always at the heart of success in the kids business. So we've recruited a highly experienced and successful indie creator to show you how to package your concept with effective bibles and one-sheets, sell yourself and your project in the market, and wisely manage your IP rights.

By now, you’re probably in the thick of schedulingKidscreen Summit meetings, so use these maps of our new venue to help you figure out where to connect with other delegates. Our Delegate Lounge—which is Meeting Central at the event—will be located on the second level in the Grand Ballroom.

We will once again have three 10-foot-tall Meeting Points set up in and around the Lounge area to help you find each other more easily. Each one will look more or less like this example from last year, and here’s where they will be located:

  • Meeting Point A — Grand Ballroom (Trianon)

Game design guru Nick Fortugno to keynote iKids!

We are thrilled to announce that renowned game designer and entrepreneur Nicholas Fortugno will open iKids 2015 with a thought-provoking keynote entitled Leveling Up: Getting maximum brand value out of gamification.

From casual to fully immersive games, brands and developers have been tapping into this type of content to extend properties into the digital landscape for some time—especially in the kids space. But Fortugno contends that games of all shapes and sizes have far more potential as part of a brand's lifecycle than what's currently being exploited. As our iKids keynote speaker, he’ll explore how brands can more fully experiment and innovative with games to drive engagement, and work cost-effectively to get the most out their relationships with developers.

You can add iKids to your Kidscreen Summit experience for just $549. Email Joel Pinto at jpinto@brunico.com to sign up today!

Christina Miller is now leading the charge at one of the world’s biggest children’s broadcasters, having taken the reins at Turner for Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang. YouTubing For Pros — How to monetize on the world’s biggest video platform

You’ve got the content, you’ve got the clicks—so where’s the money? Converting all of that online attention into actual dollars can be difficult at best, which is why we’re bringing in a savvy professional to break down what monetization models are working on the world's largest video platform. We’ll also explore the opportunities around creating affiliated niche channels, and how to leverage your audience connections to attract brands and advertising partners.

(1:00-2:30) MENTOR CLASS
Killin’ It — Writing for tweens and teens

Arguably the most discerning audience to write for, it’s not impossible to win tweens and teens over.

Launchpad Logic — Making the right TV vs. digital decision

Direct to Retail — Making the perfect pitch for shelf space

YYou’ve got a seat at the retail table.

BOOK NOW to stay at the InterContinental Miami

Our hotel reservation link is open for business, and Kidscreen Summit attendees can book king or double rooms at the InterContinental Miami from February 19-27 for just US$299 a night. This is an outstanding rate for this hotel class in February, which is prime time for Miami travel and tourism.

Ranked #5 in the city by TripAdvisor, the Miami InterContinental is a thoroughly modern four-star hotel located on prime downtown waterfront. It was renovated from top to bottom two years ago, and its attractive features include breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, spacious and well-appointed guestrooms (with 24-hour room service and minibars), an on-site Starbucks, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a full-service spa and a heated outdoor pool and sundeck.

Plus its Toro Toro Restaurant and Bar—which is a crown jewel in the hotel’s swank open-concept lobby—is sitting pretty at #2 on TripAdvisor’s Miami restaurant rankings.

The InterContinental is located just minutes away from South Beach, the Design District, Coconut Grove’s bohemian village and the many galleries, restaurants and boutique shops in Coral Gables.
