Helen McAleer runs a media consultancy specialising in IP, publishing and TV production. Drawing on almost 30 years’ experience of the children’s sector across all key media she works with clients including publishing houses Walker Books Group and Macmillan Children’s Books, literary agents LAW, publisher and kids’ content start-up Lost My Name and is the cross-media consultant for The London Book Fair. Helen is also a non-executive director of production company Jam Media and licensing agency Rocket Licensing.
Before setting up her consultancy business Helen spent several years at the Walker Books Group, joining as Managing Director of Walker Books UK and founding Walker Productions. She went on to become Chief Global Development Officer, responsible for globalising her successful UK strategy in TV, licensing, digital and rights management across the group. As MD of Walker Productions she developed and co-produced award-winning TV series and films for Disney Junior, CBeebies, CBBC, CITV and Channel 4 and is the Executive Producer of Tilly and Friends, Hank Zipzer and C4’s 2016 animated Christmas family film We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
Prior to joining Walker Helen was Deputy MD at BBC Worldwide where she was responsible for an annual TV programming investment budget of £12m, as well as DVD, licensing and merchandising, publishing and digital businesses.
Helen is a member of the Children’s Media Conference Committee, a member of the London Book Fair Advisory Committee, a patron of the Children’s Media Foundation and is on the board of the charity My Big Career, an organisation dedicated to breaking down barriers to social mobility, helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with career development.
