Sebastian Debertin was one of the first executives who helped to create and establish KiKA, the joint public kids channel of ARD and ZDF/Germany. KiKA started broadcasting on January 1st, 1997 as a pure linear kids channel and meanwhile evolved to a full digital kids content provider, which celebrated its 25th birthday in 2022.
Sebastian is acting as Head of International Content Acquisitions and Co-Productions, part of the Programmgeschaeftsfuehrung, which is responsible for the management and programming of KiKA. In this role, Sebastian is searching for and identifying new projects and programs while being responsible for all international acquisitions and co-productions for fiction, non-fiction, and preschool programs. He oversees KiKA's international business affairs, all contract negotiations with international program partners, and the management of KiKA's global contacts within the media landscape. Before that he served for 23 years as Head of Fiction, Acquisitions and Co-Productions at the
pubcaster, creating, producing, and acquiring a large number of kids' hit shows and strong brands, like Yakari, Chloés Closet, Animanimals, Care Bears, Mouk, Fireman Sam, The Cat in the Hat, Blinky Bill, Guess How Much I Love You, Masha and the Bear, Insectibles, Lily's Driftwood Bay, Super Wings, Esme & Roy, Mumfie and many more. In his additional role as Executive Producer, Sebastian is currently co-producing the all-new The Smurf series in collaboration with TF1, IMPS-Peyo, RTBF, and Ellipse-Dupuis as well as Goat Girl with Daily Madness and Miam! and Warner Media series Odo, with Letko and Sixteen South.
Among other national and international awards, Sebastian is a Primetime Emmy Award winner.
