Doug Schwalbe is Founder of The Co-Production Company, a boutique production company specializing in finance and distribution arrangements for international television series and features in kids and family entertainment.
In 2022, The Co-Production Company was acquired by France’s Superprod Group, the Paris-based studio that develops, produces and distributes animated and live-action television series and features. Current productions include prime-time hit Panda for TF1, Home Sweet Rome for BBC/RAI/ARD/Max, and Miffy with CANAL+ and StudioCanal.
Doug founded The Co-Production Company in 2021, after eight years with DreamWorks Animation as SVP of Co-production. From 2002 to 2012, he was Executive Vice President, Managing Director of Classic Media which was acquired by DreamWorks in 2012. He has also held senior program sales and co-production positions with HBO and Twentieth Century Fox International TV.
As an independent producer and distributor, Doug has produced over 200 hours of franchise television including Casper the Friendly Ghost, Lassie, Mr. Magoo and George of the Jungle. He executive produced the acclaimed feature Lassie, starring Peter O’Toole and Peter Dinklage, and Postman Pat the Movie, starring David Tennant, Jim Broadbent, Rupert Grint and Stephen Mangan.
As CEO of Splendid Television from 2000-2002, his productions of “James Dean” for TNT and “Victoria and Albert” for BBC/A&E were nominated for 14 Emmys including a supporting actress for Dame Diana Rigg and won the Golden Globe for best actor in a TV movie for James Franco as James Dean. He also handled international distribution for the Matt Damon/Ben Affleck produced “Project Greenlight.”
Recently his 2019 feature documentary, “Halston”, for CNN Films and Amazon premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
