John Rice is a Bafta winning Producer and Director who began his career as an animator in feature film working at 20th Century Fox in the US. This was followed by a position in MTV - New York where he spent two years as the character designer on a number of projects. Being familiar with both pre and post production and with the technologies associated with both, John set up Jam Media in 2002 with two college friends.
Since then the studio has produced the award winning pre-school series Picme (104 episodes X 5 minutes), Funky Fables (26 episodes x 11 minutes) and most recently Roy (52 x 28 minutes) which has won the following awards for Best Children’s Drama, RTS Award in 2010, Bafta in 2012, IFTA in 2013 and The Tricks for Kids Award 2013 in Stuttgart. Other shows produced are Baby Jake - Series 01 and 02 which picked up The Broadcast Award for best Preschool in January 2013 and Tilly and Friends with Walker Books and CBeebies which was delivered late 2012.
JAM’s brands have sold to over 90 territories and have been translated into in excess of 30 languages. Currently the company is in production on Series 03 and 04 of Roy and in development with a slate of further productions. The company has opened additional offices in Belfast last 12 months.
John holds a Masters in Multi-Media from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland and is currently serving on the board of The Irish Film Board.
