VP Licensing Acquisitions & Business Affairs

Mattel, Inc.

Hello. My name is Jeffrey Korchek and this is my bio.

I am currently Vice President of Licensing Acquisitions and Content Business Affairs at Mattel. In this job I am responsible for identifying and acquiring new licensed properties based on third party intellectual property for the purpose of making toys and consumer products. The licensed properties can include movies, video games, automobiles, or celebrity names and likenesses. I am also in charge of business affairs for licensing and content production and distribution, including the negotiation of home entertainment distribution agreements and licensing arrangements with studios and networks for motion pictures and television shows based upon Mattel’s intellectual property. I have been at Mattel since 2005, starting as Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs.

Previously (but not on Homeland), I was Executive Vice President at Universal Pictures in charge of Business and Legal Affairs. I began at the studio in 1987 as an attorney and was there until 2000. I have also worked at a literary agency, as a senior executive at USA Entertainment and I began my career as an attorney at Manatt, Phelps, Rotenberg and Tunney. During my undergraduate and graduate years I was a line cook, waiter and host in a variety of restaurants in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco and Philadelphia.

I attended the University of California, Berkeley where I majored in Economics and I spent my junior year at the University of Edinburgh studying Economics and Economics History. I received an MBA from the Wharton School, concentrating in Marketing, and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Since 1998 I have been an Adjunct Professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, teaching the first year motion picture and television business course in the Peter Stark Producing Program. I also teach an undergraduate course in the Interdisciplinary Program in the cinema school at USC. I’ve written a number of articles for the Hollywood Reporter and the Huffington Post and also served as an Executive Producer on an independent film, Graduation, and a documentary Mortified Nation.

I was born in Los Angeles (although the hospital is now the Scientology headquarters), live on the edge of Hancock Park before you get to Koreatown, have three great kids, two large dogs and a nice collection of photographs.
