Michelle Sullivan leads National Geographic’s kids and family digital initiatives including the Webby award-winning website http://www.kids.nationalgeographic.com and NG Kids TV, its multi-platform, digital video channel. She is a dynamic and creative content and product strategist with an ability to “think like a 10-year-old.” Michelle is an energetic and innovative executive whose primary mission is helping National Geographic Kids manage a successful transition from print powerhouse to a robust and engaging digital dynamo.
Prior to joining National Geographic, Michelle was director of editorial programming for AOL’s teen service, RED, which she helped develop and launch in 2003. Additionally, she served as principal product manager for AOL’s premium educational products and StudyBuddy.com homework help site.
In her pre-digital life, she was an editor at Teen and MoxieGirl magazines and was published in several publications including Marie Claire, Teen People, TeenStyle, YM and Cosmogirl. She also authored a self-empowering help book for tween girls, “Check Him Out: Your Ultimate Guide to Guys.”
Michelle’s commitment to youth extends offline. She volunteers with Launch Leadership, a non-profit in her home state that aims to develop leadership skills in middle and high school students.
Michelle is an experienced speaker and panelist on kids’ media consumption and emerging trends in children’s media. A Veronica Mars kickstarter, she also enjoys binge viewing shows on her iPad, taking Instagram-worthy selfies and pretending she’s on Glee. Michelle is a graduate of Pepperdine University.
