Jennifer Burkitt is Founder & Creative Director at Log Cabin Productions Inc. (LCP) LCP is a creative hub and full service digital and linear production studio. Partners Jennifer Burkitt and Karen Fowler are passionate creators and producers creating fully immersive content experiences that respond to kids and families innate desire for great, playful stories and games on the devices of today and tomorrow.
The team has spent years crafting award-winning games, activities and TV shows for the likes of PBS Kids, Kids’ CBC, TVOKids, Sesame Workshop, Knowledge Kids, BBC Kids, ABC (Australia), Nickelodeon (U.S.) and Teletoon. Between them they have won multiple Emmy's, Parents' Gold Choice awards, Japan Prize, several Gemini's, Canadian New Media Awards and FlashintheCan nominations.
Jennifer is a digital veteran having spent her career in the interactive space.
In 1996 Jennifer joined the Canadian Film Centre as Manager New Media Programmes at Media Linx Habitat. For the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), she programmed the Interactive Arena, a lecture series showcasing innovative digital pioneers. She developed digital projects for the entertainment sector, then became Lead Producer for Medium One Productions and produced several online projects for PBS Kids, Cinar and The Learning Company. As Manager of TVOKids.com, her focus became children and youth exclusively.
Just prior to starting LCP, Jennifer spent 8-years as Executive in Charge of Interactive Content for Children’s & Youth Programming at CBC. She provided strategic and creative development and oversaw interactive production for the preschool, school-age, and parents’ websites. In addition to stand-alone interactive projects, she worked closely with the broadcast team to deliver work that blended interactive and on-air initiatives for Kids’ CBC. In June 2014, Jennifer re-launched CBC2 and traffic immediately rose 200%.
At Kids’ CBC, Jennifer and her team were recognized with the following accolades: Canadian New Media Award, Best Kids Interactive 2009; iParenting Media Awards, Best Website 3- to 7- year-old 2009; OCTAS 2010,
Nomination in Game and Animation for Wonder World; Parent’s Choice Award, Silver Award Honour for Busytown Mysteries; NHK Japan Prize Nomination for Best Educational Website 2008 for kidscbc.ca (preschool); The Bronze Plaque, Best Kids Website 2008 for cbc.ca/kids (school-age), and most recently the 2013 Youth Media Alliance Awards – Nomination, Best Original Digital Content (kidscbc.ca) and The 2013 Webby Awards – Official Honouree, Youth Category (kidscbc.ca).
Jennifer has a Media Arts degree from Ryerson Polytechnic University and a Psychology degree from the University of Guelph.
Jennifer’s favourite role is Mom to her eleven year old daughter and 8 year old son. Both of her kids are avid athletes and play on their City’s all star teams. So when she’s not building media, you can find her in the gym watching her daughter shoot hoops or catch her at the rink watching her son shooting pucks from the point.
