Co-founded by producers Michael Rose and Martin Pope in 2003, Magic Light Pictures makes imaginative entertainment for audiences, families and children worldwide.

The company creates high quality films and products and has built the wonderful Gruffalo brand based on the best-selling books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.   The company directly manages production, licensing, global distribution and marketing and runs an international merchandising programme with over 40 licensees and 350 products. 

The company’s films have been nominated for four Oscars, and won two BAFTAS, two International Kids Emmys, the Rose D’or, an Annie, a Royal Television Society Award, a European Film Award and multiple Annecy Crystals.  

Recent productions include BBC1 Christmas animated specials: The Snail and the Whale; Zog; The Highway Rat; Revolting Rhymes; Stick Man; Room on the Broom;  The Gruffalo; and The Gruffalo’s Child.

Magic Light is currently production on its first animated series for pre-school, Pip and Posy,  and a new special for Xmas 2020, Zog and The Flying Doctors.  Alongside further specials, the company is also developing a second animated pre-school series and a slate of family drama.
