Rebels with a Cause: How creative disobedience makes kids their best selves

Share your toy. Apologize to your friend. Believe it or not, the obedience we usually model in kids TV may inadvertently disempower children and compromise their ability to empathize with others and self-advocate. This session will explore how current series Lu and the Bally Bunch and Silly Sundays have applied Nonviolent Communication, a social interaction framework that helps kids connect to their needs while also caring for others. It's "me with you" versus "me or you"—and the impact is transformative for both the audience and the creative teams developing and producing the content. From scripts, to notes, to final clips, come see for yourself!
