Rick Mischel

Executive Producer

Sony Pictures Animation

Rick Mischel currently serves as a Producer at Sony Pictures Animation, the Sony division behind such animated features as Hotel Transylvania and The Smurfs.  Prior to his role as a Producer, Mischel served as Senior Vice President for Sony Pictures Imageworks. Mischel launched and managed the animation/vfx facility for Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver, BC. The Vancouver facility has grown from an initial 60 Artists to over 300 Artists, with work on such films as Hotel Transylvania, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and The Smurfs.  Sony Pictures Imageworks is the division of Sony Pictures Entertainment that produces Sony’s feature-length CGI animated motion pictures, as well as visual effects for feature films.  

Prior to his position at Sony, Mischel served as executive vice president of Technicolor, leading their Business Unit that specializes in the creation of digital assets for the gaming and the animation industry, as well as managing the overall joint venture with Dreamworks Animation in India. Mischel supervised both a Burbank-based team of artists and liaised with Technicolor’s India-based animation studio, Paprikaas.  With over 750 artists in Burbank and Bangalore, India, this business unit supplies animation and game services to clients like Activision, Konami, Nickelodeon, and Warner Brothers, including Audio, Localization, and Art & Animation content.

Prior to Technicolor, Mischel served as founder and president of REACH GAMES offering digital creation services to the games industry.

Previously, Mischel served as CEO of Mainframe Entertainment, a publicly-traded CGI animation studio specializing in television series, direct-to-video features, and gaming animation. 

Before Mainframe, Mischel served as President and COO of The Harvey Entertainment Company, where he was in charge of managing the business and creative affairs for some of the most lucrative intellectual properties in the family entertainment world, including "Casper The Friendly Ghost" and "Richie Rich." 

Mischel began his career as an entertainment attorney with O'Melveny & Myers in 1987.  Two years later, Mischel joined Electric Pictures Corporation as a vice president and was responsible for the development of feature film projects.  From 1993 to 1997, Mischel served as the senior vice president of Live Entertainment, responsible for the acquisition, development and production of all completed feature films, co-productions and co-financing film projects, as well as all animated direct-to-video features, television specials and other Family Home Entertainment (FHE) branded children's programs.
