Cartoon Network

Barry Koch is senior vice president and general manager of the Turner Kids and Youth Business in Latin America. In this capacity, he oversees programming, creative services, digital media, marketing, public relations, corporate responsibility, licensing and network operations for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Tooncast in the region. Based in Atlanta, Koch reports to Juan Carlos Urdaneta, president of Turner Broadcasting System Latin America, Inc.

Under Koch’s leadership, Cartoon Network Latin America has continually succeeded as a market leader in pay television and extended its reach to offer a distinctive multiplatform entertainment experience. Home to the largest cartoon library, including award-winning original programming, the network features the best characters in cartoon and live-action settings, series, movies and video games through a multiplicity of platforms such as TV, internet, live events, licensed products, and mobile media.

Koch has overseen Cartoon Network’s development of original local content in Latin America, including new episodes of the animated series Monica’s Gang, produced in Brazil with Mauricio de Sousa Produções; the comedy live-action showLa CQ, a co-production with Televisa International, and Toonix, the fun and playful characters created in Argentina by Cartoon Network’s digital team, which originated as online avatars and grew to include animated shorts, games and consumer products.

Most recently, Koch led Cartoon Network to # 1 ratings in Latin America where the network was the most watched pay television channel amongst cable kids 4-11 for several months in a row, while in Brazil Cartoon Network remained number 1 for cable kids 4-11 for over 2 years. Additionally, its seven websites are among the most visited by kids in Latin America.

Koch's career at TBS Inc. began in 1984 with a variety of production positions at CNN, including editing for the Special Assignment unit of the network. He later moved into audience research where he was named vice president of audience research for TNT, Turner Classic Movies, TNT Latin America and Cartoon Network Latin America in 1995. In 1998, Koch was made vice president and managing director of Cartoon Network and Boomerang Latin America and in 2002 he was appointed to his current position as Senior Vice President and General Manager for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Tooncast Latin America.  

Barry Koch holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s in business administration from the University of South Florida.
