Michael Dee is Director of Content at Coolabi Group, the UK-based Intellectual Property company. Michael is responsible for all creative content for the children’s group portfolio. This includes marketing, product, branding and creative development and input for digital and television productions. He has over twenty years of experience in developing content, brands and properties in the media and entertainment industries. Michael is an executive producer on the new series of Clangers for CBeebies and the Walker Book series Scream Street, a forthcoming stop motion animation for CBBC. The Coolabi Group includes Working Partners. Coolabi are developing the WP/Hachette book series Beast Quest into a full 360 brand, including a major mobile game development with gaming publisher, Miniclip.
Michael works closely with the company’s commercial and television production divisions to ensure creative decision making is closely married with revenue and corporate objectives.
Prior to Coolabi Michael was Development Director at Walker Productions (now Walker Entertainment) , a division of UK based publisher Walker Books. During his time there all selected properties for development were subsequently picked up by a UK or global broadcaster for further development and commissioning, including Tilly & Friends (CBeebies), Henry Hugglemonster (Disney Jr) and Fleabag Monkeyface (CiTV).
Michael was previously Strategic Director at Chorion and was responsible for the roll-out, development and forward planning of properties such as Mr Men and the Blyton catalogue.
Earlier roles include head of pre-school IP and Children’s Brands at BBC Worldwide. He has further experience in the independent production sector at Tell-Tale Productions (now Wish Films) as their Director of Intellectual Property.
At Disney, Michael was Head of UK Marketing for Disneyland Paris, and an executive at Buena Vista Productions, responsible for Disney branded TV specials throughout Europe.
