John Derevlany is a Canadian-American writer, animator, and showrunner of hit TV shows for children. He has written or co-written more than 20 pilots that have been greenlit for series.  

Most recent shows developed by Derevlany include the animated, middle-school, sitcom Squish (HBO Max, 2021), the toy-driven action show Akedo: Ultimate Warriors (youtube 2021), and the surreal soccer comedy Underdogs United (Discovery Kids 2022).  

Other shows developed or created by Derevlany include LEGO Legends of Chima, Wayside, Monster Buster Club, Gerald McBoing Boing, and Jim Henson's Animal Jam.  

He has won a Writers Guild of America award, and been nominated for a Canadian Screen Writing Award, a Writers Guild of Canada award, and an Emmy. He currently specializes in absurdist comedies and sprawling, action epics built on “Super Narratives,” a type of storytelling designed to seamlessly succeed across multiple media platforms.

In addition to his work in TV, Derevlany has also been a game designer, Flash animator, street artist, professional ukulele player, and a crime fighting chicken (suit performer) named Crackers.  

He grew up in both Queens, New York, and Quebec City, Canada. He now lives in Culver City, California, with his wife and two kids. He is a duel U.S.-Canadian citizen.
