Linda is the executive producer and co-creator of over 500 episodes of the internationally recognized, multi-award winning Degrassi television franchise. Dedicated to the art of storytelling, Linda is best known for work that explores the human experience, breaks stereotypes, and encourages communications.
Over the past 40 years, the Degrassi series has garnered numerous awards and accolades including two International Emmys and four Primetime Emmy nominations. In 2011, for her work with the LGBTQ+ community, Linda received The Bonham Centre Award (University of Toronto) alongside Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk). The award recognizes those who have made notable contributions to the development of sex education and sexual diversity in the public sphere. Degrassi has received five nominations for “Outstanding Drama Series” at the GLAAD Media Awards and won a Peabody Award for “My Body is a Cage”, the episode that introduced Degrassi’s first transgender character, Adam (trans male) to the main cast. More than awards, Linda appreciates the feedback from her audience. She has received countless letters, e-mails and texts from young people who have said, “Thank you Degrassi, you gave me the courage to come out to my family, friends and community.”
As a long-time educator, storyteller, and entrepreneur, Linda is a mentor and guest lecturer at various universities and maintains an active involvement in a range of community and professional organizations. Linda is a Member of both the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario. Her memoir, The Mother of all Degrassi, was released in November 2022.
