Lucia Baez-Geller was elected straight from the classroom in 2020. As a school board member, she has made student achievement, mental health, family involvement, and increasing teacher recruitment and retention her main policy priorities. Recently, Lucia was the only school board member to vote to recognize October as LGBTQ History Month in Miami-Dade Schools, recognizing the importance of this month and the impact it can have on young people. Miami-Dade's LGBTQ community is grateful to her for taking a stand for LGBTQ youth. Prior to her election in 2020, she proudly taught English and Language Arts to her students at Miami Beach Senior High School for 15 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education from Spring Hill College, a master's degree in English Education from Nova Southeastern University, and an Education Specialist’s degree in Teaching and Learning from Florida International University.
